VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENTS

To ensure the safety of our crew and community, all United Volunteer Fire/Rescue members must meet the following minimum qualifications and commitments:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Valid Driver’s License and clean record
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Successful background check completion
  • Physically capable of duty tasks
  • Commitment to 24 hours of duty per month
  • Attendance at mandatory weekly training

THE ENROLLMENT PROCESS

Step 01

Online Application

Start your journey by completing our digital interest form. This provides our recruitment team with your background, availability, and initial certifications.

Step 02

Departmental Interview

Meet directly with our leadership board. We'll discuss the department's expectations, your personal goals, and how you can best serve the UVFR community.

Step 03

Probationary Enrollment

Once cleared, you will be issued your probationary gear and paired with a mentor. You'll begin your formal fire academy training or EMS certifications immediately.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What are the core requirements to volunteer?

Applicants must be at least 18 years old, possess a valid driver's license, and reside within the response district. A clean background check and successful physical exam are required.

Do I need prior training to apply?

No. UVFR provides comprehensive training through our professional academy. You will earn national certifications at no cost to you while gaining hands-on field experience.

How many hours must I serve each month?

We ask for a minimum of 24 on-call hours per month, along with attendance at our bi-weekly training drills. We offer flexible scheduling to fit your professional life.

What other non-firefighting roles exist?

We offer administrative, fire-police, and community education roles. If you want to serve without active firefighting, our Support Services team is a perfect fit.
